Maurice Goldfoot with Daughter Nadene

This is me with my father, Maurice Goldfoot in about 1936. When my father was young, he boxed professionally. He told me that if his opponent was quite large, he would take a fall rather than being beaten up badly. He started working in a kosher butcher shop and from there went to owning his own whole-sale meat store called Lincoln Wholesale Meats on SW 3rd and Lincoln, right across from the Lincoln Theater. I used to keep his books when I was 15 years old. By the time I was in college, he had bought Silver Falls Meat Packing Co on "Slaughter House Avenue" in North Portland, where Swift and Armour and other meat packing companies were located on the Columbia River. He was a hard worker who never took a vacation. Work and attending cattle auctions were his life.
